WHAT IS IT?

What Is Laminate Installation?

Laminate flooring is a high-density fiberboard core topped with a photographic wood or stone layer and a protective wear layer. When it's installed correctly, it looks nearly identical to hardwood at a fraction of the cost. When it's installed wrong — over an unlevel subfloor, without proper underlayment, or without acclimation — it warps, buckles, and separates. We do it right.

What You Need to Know Before Your Install

We believe an informed client is the best kind of client. Here's what most installers won't tell you upfront:

  • Laminate requires an underlayment pad beneath it — always. The pad cushions the floor, reduces noise, and helps smooth out minor subfloor imperfections.

  • If your laminate is going over a concrete subfloor, you also need a moisture barrier. Concrete releases moisture vapor that will swell and damage laminate over time. The barrier goes between the concrete and the underlayment.

  • Laminate must acclimate to your home's temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours before installation. We factor this into your install timeline.

  • Laminate is a floating floor — it is not glued or nailed down. It needs expansion gaps around every wall and fixed object to allow for natural expansion and contraction.

  • Laminate is not waterproof. It is water-resistant. Standing water or persistent moisture will damage it. It is not recommended for bathrooms or laundry rooms.

Why Choose Korr Floors?

We never skip acclimation. It's the most common reason laminate fails — and the easiest thing to prevent.

We always use the right underlayment for the subfloor type. Concrete and wood have different requirements and we know both.

Our quotes include takeup, subfloor prep, underlayment, installation, trim, and transitions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is laminate good for high-traffic areas?

Yes. A high-quality laminate with an AC3 or AC4 rating handles heavy foot traffic well. We'll help you choose the right product at your estimate.

Can laminate be installed over radiant heat?

Some laminate products are approved for radiant heat systems. This must be verified before purchase — we'll confirm compatibility at your estimate.

How do I clean laminate?

Dry or damp mopping only. Never use wet mops or steam cleaners on laminate. We'll go over care instructions at your post-install walkthrough.

Is laminate the same as LVP?

No. Laminate has a wood-fiber core and is not waterproof. LVP has a plastic core and is 100% waterproof. Both look similar but perform differently. We'll help you decide which is right for your space.
